Online Author Visit: Max Brallier
Would you survive a zombie apocalypse? Join us online to talk with New York Times bestselling author Max Brallier about The Last Kids on Earth, both the book series and the animated series on Netflix. In this virtual event, Max will share how he came up with the different monsters and villains as well as the unique ways that Jack and his friends figure out to defeat them.
Online Author Visit: Kate DiCamillo
Join us online for a visit to Deckawoo Drive with everyone’s favorite adventure loving pig, Mercy Watson! Newbery Medal winning author Kate DiCamillo will be sharing the stories behind the creation of her early chapter book series, the original Mercy Watson, and the follow up series, Tales from Deckawoo Drive. We will also be celebrating the publication of the final book in the Mercy Watson series!
Grand Re-Opening Celebration
Stop by the Library between 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 for this open house grand re-opening celebration, which will feature all kinds of fun elements, including musical performances, a presentation on the renovation project, an exhibition of art from the Library’s collection, crafts for kids, and more!
Music Concert: The Buckhannon Brothers
Join us for a free musical concert from two talented local musicians. St. Louis folk and bluegrass duo The Buckhannon Brothers will present an intimate concert of ragtime, bluegrass and early folk tunes, drawing on a repertoire of guitar and mandolin music that includes a wide range of traditional influences. Frequent performers at the U. City Farmer’s Market, the Buckhannon Brothers have performed all over St. Louis region and are well known for their spirited performances. This event is all-ages.
Music Concert: Cherry and Jerry Ragtime Duo
Join us for a free musical concert from talented local musicians. St. Louis ragtime-era duo Cherry and Jerry will present a concert of ragtime and early blues, including some well-known songs of the day and some rarely played tunes, some of which put Missouri at the forefront of that era’s music scene. Hear music by Scott Joplin, W.C. Handy and many others. The duo has presented this music throughout the region including the Illinois State Fair, the George Washington Carver National Monument, and the Cole Porter Jazz Festival. This event is all-ages.
Health Screening
HPES will host a free health screening from 9 a.m. to noon in the auditorium.
Screening tests offered include:

- Cholesterol (LDL, HDL, Triglycerides)
- Skin inspection
- Heart & Lung Disease (EKG/pulmonary function)
- Hearing

Eye Thrive Mobile Vision Clinic
Eye Thrive will offer free eye exams and glasses in their mobile vision clinic beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 8 in the parking lot of the library. All services are free of charge, though exams are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis until spots are filled.
All children aged 4-18 are eligible for the free exams and glasses, though a parental consent form must be completed prior to the eye exam. Masks are required on-board the mobile vision clinic (they will be provided, if needed) and capacity on-board is limited, so parents and guardians cannot accompany their children on the vehicle.

Senior Lunch & Learn
Join us at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12 for a lunch-and-learn event focused on U.City’s senior residents. The monthly series features local experts discussing programs and services that are available for seniors in the St. Louis area. This program will feature a presentation by AARP about avoiding scams.
