Join us at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 for an online screening of the film, In the Executioner’s Shadow. The 2018 documentary explores justice, injustice and the death penalty through three interweaving personal narratives — a former state executioner who nearly executes an innocent person; a Boston Marathon bombing victim who struggles to decide what justice really means; and the parents of a murder victim who face abandoning their values or fighting for the life of their daughter’s killer. The documentary is 40 minutes long and is unrated.

The online screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s co-producer, University City native Rick Stack. A graduate of University City High School, Mr. Stack is an author, professor, and activist dedicated to social justice, with a focus on those impacted by the death penalty. He will be joined in the discussion by Elyse Max, executive director of Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, who will offer up-to-date information on the state of death penalty cases in Missouri.

This online program is free and open to all. Email reference@ucitylibrary.org to receive an email invitation to the Zoom event. The program will also be live-streamed to UCPL’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
