Join our “Creative Stitches” quilting class designed specifically for older adult and discover the joy of quilting as an art form that fosters creativity, mindfulness, and community. Taught by Gwen Clopton of Circle in the Square Quilters, students will learn the main techniques and skills of quilting to make and finish their own small wall hanging or table runner by the end of the class sessions.
Each class will include a presentation, a mini trunk show illustrating that week’s topic, and hands-on project time. During our 8-week class, we’ll talk about the history of quilting, how to select colors and fabrics, and techniques for piecing quilt tops and quilting them. There will be a celebration in the final ninth week to share our finished pieces.
The class will take place each Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the UCPL makerspace, starting Oct. 1 and ending Nov. 26. Participants in the class must be age 55 or older, and there is limited space available for the class, so please call 314-727-3150 or email reference@ucitylibrary.org to reserve your spot. Adults only.
This class is presented as part of the Advancing Creative Aging Through State Library Leadership Initiative, a joint initiative of Califa Group, Wyoming State Library, Missouri State Library, and Lifetime Arts. It was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Grant.
