Youth Summer – Trash Movie Night: The Original Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters' Original Movie Back in Theaters - Variety

There is something special about sitting down with a bag of popcorn, a snack, and your friends and just roasting a terrible film. That’s what we are setting out to do with our Trash Movie Night this summer at U City Library.

Released in 1984, The Original Ghostbusters follows the tale of three parapsychologists forced out of their university funding set up shop as a unique ghost removal service in New York City, attracting frightened yet skeptical customers. The jokes are bad, the effects are laughable, and this old movie did NOT hold up. But are the snacks free and the movie fun to make fun of? Heck yeah.

This movie is Rated “80s PG”, which makes it PG-13 by today’s standards. It contains cartoon-like violence, scares, occasional cursing, and sexual innuendo. Therefore the event is for Teens ages 13+, though it is up to individual families to decide if this event is right for their Teen.

The movie night is free for Teens and will take place at the University United Methodist Church (across the parking lot from our temporary location).

This program is presented as part of the 2023 Youth Summer Reading Program, All Together Now. For more information about the program, visit our Youth Summer Reading page or call Youth Services at 314-727-3150.
