Author Event: Ann Leckie

Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
Join us for a visit from award-winning author Ann Leckie as she reads from and discusses her newest book, The Raven Tower. A New York Times bestselling author, Leckie has also won the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke awards for science fiction writing. The Raven Tower is Leckie’s first work of fantasy. Leckie lives with her family in the St. Louis area.

Shakespearean in scale and tone, The Raven Tower details the parallel struggles between warring gods and human politics. For centuries, the kingdom of Iraden has been protected by the god known as the Raven. He watches over his territory from atop a tower in the powerful port of Vastai. His will is enacted through a human ruler chosen by the god himself, and his magic is sustained via the blood sacrifice that every ruler must offer. And under the Raven’s watch, the city flourishes. But the power of the Raven is weakening. A usurper has claimed the throne. The kingdom borders are tested by invaders who long for the prosperity that Vastai boasts. And they have made their own alliances with other gods.
This event is presented by the Friends of University City Public Library. Copies of The Raven Tower will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
